Sport minister considers Anatoli Karpov's project ambitious

Luanda, 6/9 – The Angolan minister of youth and sport, Gonçalves Muandumba, considered as ambitious for the development of chess the project of the candidate to the chair of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the Russian Anatoli Karpov.

The official said so during the meeting he held on Saturday in Luanda with Anatoli Karpov.

Anatoli Karpov is in Luanda since last Friday to present his project, as well as formalise his invitation to the Angolan Chess Federation (FAX) to be the vice chair of his bid at FIDE.

“It is a sign that Angola is doing something good for the development of sport and chess in particular”, said the minister.

According to him, chess has been contributing to the intellect and its practice reflects on school development.

Gonçalves Muandumba secured all support of the Angolan government to the FIDE chair candidate and Angola will contact some countries of the southern Africa region and the African Portuguese speaking nations (PALOP) for them to vote for Anatoli Karpov.

The ceremony was attended by the governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, sport deputy minister, Albino da Conceição and by the national sports director, among other members of the African chess federations in Luanda.

Karpov hands trophies to "ZE DU" chess tournament winners

Luanda, 6/9 – Former russian chess world champion, Anatoli Karpov, Saturday handed the trophies to the winners of the chess tournament, held from August 26 to September 2, allusive to the 68th birthday of angolan president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, celebrated on August 28.

National chess expert João Simôes won in the male category followed by national master Ediberto Domingos, both from Epal team, Sonia Rosalina was the female winner and Nelma Lopes placed 2nd.

The president of the angolan chess federation wished sucess to national chess players highlighting the presence of the sports former world champion who is in Angola to expose the basis for his candidacy for president of the International Chess Federation to be elected in September 17 in Kanty Mansvesk (Russia).

Olímpio Cipriano might miss game against USA

Kayseri, 6/9– The Angolan national basketball team player, Olímpio Cipriano, might miss the Monday’s match against USA for the 8th final of the world cup taking place in Turkey, due to an injury.

The information was released Saturday to Angop by the team’s physician, Agostinho Matamba.

According to the doctor, there are few chances of the player to perform in the game against USA, taking into account the seriousness of the injury.

He said suffered an injury resulting from the game against Germany.

He said that was the game to be played on Saturday or Sunday, there was no chance fo Cipriano (1,96 metres) to play, adding there might be a positive evolution on Monday.

Olímpio Cipriano (28) is a relevant player of the national basketball team in the ongoing world cup. He comes 17th on the standings with 59 points (14.8 median per game) and one of the most reference of the African championships.

Angolan national football team lose to Uganda

Luanda, 6/9 – The Angolan national senior males football team lost to Uganda by 0-3 on Saturday, in Kampala’s Nelson Mandela stadium, for group J’s first round qualifier for the African Cup of Nations, to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012.

In the first half of the match, Angola were already losing by 0-1.

In the second round of the competition, Angola will face Guinea Bissau, in Luanda, on 8, 9 or 10 October.

National team coach distressed by Angola's defeat

Luanda, 6/9 - The coach of Angolan national senior males football team, French Hervé Renard, admitted Saturday that is distressed by the 0-3 defeat to Ugandan in  group J first round match of the qualifier for the African Cup of Nations, set for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2011.

Speaking to the press in Kampala, the coach said the defeat was too heavy for a team like Angola, adding that the  mistakes made led a result that could be avoided.

Despite this setback, the coach said that he will continue working with the purpose of obtaining victories in  coming matches.

Minjud gets programmes for Pan-African Games

Luanda, 6/9 - Ministry of Youth and Sports received Friday, here, programmes of national federations whose sports are currently in the future Pan-African games, happening next September in Maputo, Mozambique.

The act of handing over programmes, happened at Angola Paralympics Committee (CPA) led by national Sports director, Raimundo Ricardo, assisted by Angola Olympic Committee Secretary General (COA), Mário Rosa.

The national sports administration has programmes of federations such as: Athletics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Tennis, Boxing, Judo, Handball and Basketball.

The following federations; Canoe, Volleyball and Shooting were absent in the meeting.

According to Sports national director, these federations still have time to proceed the handing over of their preparation plan.
